I've been looking at different things and I wonder if anyone uses a Canon Powershot S2.... Since i'm a novice I think a Rebel ( or something like it ) would be way too much camera for me, at least for now. This one seems like it would be in my price/experience range... anyone have any thoughts????

Sorry, Jenna! I went whole hog to a Rebel! ;)
Try it - you might like it....... (said in my best evil, cute, singsong voice!)

I have the S1, I've been using it for several years now - works great, but only 3.2meg - The S3 is out now, it looks pretty good too. My Rebel just got here - waiting for the battery to charge!

I've had my Canon S2 since February & love it! While I would love to have a Rebel I know I don't have the time or patience to learn it right now or the $$ to buy it LOL! I paid $388 for mine online & I believe they have gone down even more since the S3 came out a few months ago. Pretty much all the recent layouts in my gallery are photos I've taken with my camera with the exception of a few older photos that I've scanned in. I've also got some pictures on my blog that I took at a KC Chiefs football game & my husband couldn't believe how good they were & the detail you could see when we looked at them full size in Photoshop. I'm hoping to get some of them blown up for my dad who is a huge KC fan & season ticket holder!
It was pretty easy to learn & you can actually order a couple of different lenses, UV filters & lens hoods for it. Here's the place I've been looking at purchasing a few accessories from for it. I want to get a lens hood & UV filter for when shooting outside into the sunlight. http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_S2_1.html
But other than that I've been extremely happy with my choice. When we went on vacation this past June my mother-in-law who is a die hard film camera user left her camera @ home & told me I was the designated trip photographer because my photos always turn out so great! I thought that was pretty cool and I now am planning on making her & my brother/sister-in-law's family a scrapbook of the trip as well as burning all the photos to disk for them!
Good luck with your decision!

I have an S2 also, and I've been really happy with it. I've had it since June '05 and never had a minute's trouble. My only complaint is that in its auto settings there isn't one dedicated to sports/action shots. But the basic auto setting does a pretty good job with those, so my complaint is minor!
Great bang for the buck, I say!
