Not all who wander are lost

It feels strange to be writing you. As of this time, I don't know you and you don't know me. Who will see this letter? If you are my children's child then there's a good chance we will meet face to face someday by the grace of God. If we are several generations separated you may not know my name or that I even existed. But I do exist. I exist now in my current time, and I will continue to exist in the future in you. You are a part of me. Just as I am a part of the many generations of our family before me.
My name is Holly, I am the mother of Sela and Reo. I am the daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth. My husband Tamotsu and our children are pictured here, as well as his and my parents, and my grandparents as well. These are but a few of your ancestors.
We are a varied and mixed family. We come from Germany, Ireland, England, America, the Cherokee nation, China and Japan. There may well be others that I don't know of and that is only as of my generation. Who knows how many more bloodlines have joined our family by the time you read this. Regardless of where we come from we are connected through blood and love.
I wonder what kind of place the world is during your lifetime. From the beginning of time humans have had a hard time living in peace with each other and nature. During my lifetime I have seen several wars. I am so thankful that none of them have been near to my home, but I can't assume that will always be the case. I am in the middle of my life now and I often live in fear of the changes taking place in the world today.
But I also live in hope. I have hope that the human race will understand how racism and prejudice stem from lack of knowledge and understanding. Who are we to be racist when we all have mixed blood in our veins? I have hope that the human race will see that we are not above and beyond the other creatures of this world and our eco system. We all need each other to survive. Education and experience are keys to knowledge and understanding. I pray that you, children of my children, have open minds and hearts willing to know, respect and protect all life.
Our days on this earth are short. True peace and happiness seem to be impossible to truly achieve. But I take comfort in knowing that we were not created for this world. Our eternal peace and happiness await us after this life has finished and God takes us to Heaven. But while we are here, I pray that you will strive to live in peace and harmony with the world around you.
"Do what you have to do to be happy in this life. There is so much beauty. Go well my children."
